Daniel's Story
We have begun our unit on Holocaust Studies with the novel, Daniel's Story by Carol Matas. The story of Daniel is told in first person point of view and reflects the stories of thousands of children affected by the Nazi Soldiers. Carol Matas wrote the story in conjunction with an exhibit at the National Holocaust Museum in Washington DC. As we read we will take time to explore the literary element of flashback. Most of the story is told in flashback as the main character, Daniel, looks at photographs of his experiences.
Student-Created Digital Newsletter
Over the course of the first half of the year, the 6th grade students have worked diligently with Ms. Smith and myself to create a digital newsletter to inform the community about happenings within our school. During ELA-Tech classes, students have used Gmail to conduct interviews in order to obtain information about their chosen topic. Some students collaborated with a partner and wrote an article together using the "share" feature of Google Docs. Many students also used Chromebooks and Google Images to take and upload photos related to their articles. Check out the finished newsletter by clicking on the link to "Nautical Newsletter" on the right of this page.
